St. Michael's Parish

St. Michael's is a multi-cultural and widely diverse community in South Providence. Students organize events for children in the parish such as the International Parish Festival, a Halloween party, a St. Patrick's Day party, and a Christmas gift drive.

Tutoring @ St. Patrick's School

St. Patrick's is a local Catholic school on Smith Hill where students tutor in various subjects or help with afterschool programs and clubs. Once trained, students are free to set up tutoring based on their own schedules. St. Pat's is within walking distance of College Hill or easily accessible by bus. Students range from elementary to high school age and need assistance in all subjects.

Clean UpSoup Kitchen

Students help weekly at a local soup kitchen on Mathewson Street in downtown Providence. More opportunities are available based on student leadership and interest.

Nursing Home Outreach

Epoch Assisted Living is a nearby nursing home in where students will be helping with activities and visiting with residents to offer fellowship and company.

Toiletries Collection

Once or twice a year, the Catholic community holds a toiletries drive or a collection of needed items for a local agency. Drives are announced with boxes usually located in Manning Chapel and Angie's office, JWW 413.

Clean UpOlneyville Clean-Up Day

Each spring our community participates in an Earth Day clean up day in the Olneyville neighborhood on the west side of Providence.

New Orleans Service Trip

In 2009, we began an annual service trip to New Orleans to help with the continuing rebuilding efforts post-Katrina. This year's trip will be January 10-17, 2010. Check out our NOLA page for LOTS more info.

Interfaith / Ecumenical Outreach

These are opportunities to connect with other Christians of various denominations as well as students of other faith traditions over a meal or through discussion or a social event. Past events have included panel discussions on the environment, dinner and worship with the Orthodox Students Association, a Ramadan iftar with the Muslim Students Association, and events at Hillel. Watch the Cenacle and announcements for updates.

There is also a weekly Interfaith Supper on Thursday nights at the University Chaplain's home, 58 Keene St., as well as opportunities sponsored by the Multifaith Council and Interfaith House.
