Brown - RISD Catholic Community
Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council is the core team of students responsible for leadership of our community. These student leaders work with the Chaplains to coordinate the various ministries, activities, vision, and direction of the Brown-RISD Catholic Community. They are all committed to service to the faith community & the Brown & RISD campuses. In addition to the duties specific to each role, members of the Pastoral Council meet bi-weekly and take responsibility as role models for the community. Overall Coordinators: The coordinators are responsible for having a sound knowledge of the ebb and flow of the Catholic community, to keep the lines of communication between the ministries open, and to stay in close contact with the Chaplains. They are responsible for planning the agendas of the PC meetings, organizing events such as the open community meetings and others that arise and acting as general contacts for the Catholic community to the other areas of the university, such as Student Activities and UFB.
Outreach Coordinators: The outreach coordinators ensure that the community is doing all that it can to bring the Gospel message to all people and to put our faith into action. They provide opportunities for community service and social justice (tutoring, St. Michael's, NOLA) and for ecumenical and interfaith bridge-building and outreach to Catholics who have stopped going to Mass or practicing their faith. They look for opportunities to connect people within the BRCC, the greater campuses, and the larger Providence vicinity.
Fellowship Coordinators: The fellowship coordinators facilitate the scheduling and planning of Catholic gatherings such as Friday night Fellowship, small groups, retreats, and Bible Study. They look for opportunities to keep the community moving towards a vision that is welcoming and inclusive.
Events Coordinator: The events coordinator is in charge of events around Orientation and Commencement, the pancake breakfasts, the class suppers, and the various discussion series that happen during Lent or at other times. These events are both faith-oriented and social or community bonding events.
Communications Coordinator: The communications coordinator keeps the channels open between the PC members and the entire BRCC through modes such as The Cenacle, the web site, table slipping, and scheduling. S/he takes minutes at all PC meetings and keeps us organized overall.
Liturgy Coordinator: The liturgy coordinator oversees the liturgical and prayer experiences of the BRCC by communicating with the coordinators of the various liturgical ministires (choir, lectors, etc.), overseeing special liturgical celebrations (Spanish mass, teaching mass, etc.), and prayer events (Rosary, Taize, etc.). S/he is also looked to for creativity in finding new ways for Catholics to connect to their spirituality through prayer and ritual.
